What will You learn?
Our Advanced 3D Areola Tattoo training course includes color theory, color selection, needle selection and techniques that allow the professional to create the illusion of a more dimensional nipple. We aim to spread professional knowledge of medical tattooing for post-mastectomy breast cancer survivors. Areola restoration, a specialized type of paramedical tattooing also known as areola re-pigmentation, areola reconstruction, areola cosmetic tattooing and areola micropigmentation. Good for both women and men who have undergone breast surgery. Areola restoration techniques can reproduce a replica of an areola and nipple after breast reconstruction, minimizing scars and restore a more natural shape and color.
What is Areola repigmentation?
Areola repigmentation, is often the final step after breast reconstruction. Also known as micropigmentation or “permanent make-up,” it can also be done to conceal a scar or cosmetically enhance your nipples. For breast cancer patients, this procedure can drastically reduce the appearance of surgery scars.
What is paramedical tattoo?
Restorative Cosmetic Tattooing involving Paramedical Scar Camouflage Tattooing is the art of tattooing flesh tone pigments into the skin or scar to blend, minimize, and conceal discolorations. It is a specialized area of permanent cosmetics that is also known as Medical or Paramedical Tattooing.
How much does Areola tattoo cost?
The average areola tattoo cost is around $500 for one nipple tattoo, and around $815 for two. Most artists give discounted prices if both nipples are done. However, since it’s part of breast reconstruction after mastectomy, the areola repigmentation cost should be covered by health insurance, and in most cases, it is.
One of the final steps following mastectomy is their construction of a pigmented areola nipple complex, usually referred to as 3D Areola Tattooing. This artistic technique enables the micropigmentation technician to add the finishing touches and fully transform the reconstruction into a breast that patients can be happy to call their own and aiding them to move forward in life with their restored sense of femininity.
Creating a new areola isn’t as simple as drawing a circle of color on a breast, it entails careful consideration of areola positioning in relation to the breast shape and contour, picking the right colors to complement the client’s skin tone and realizing the illusion of nipple protrusion to add realism.
Areola Nipple Tattooing is a safe procedure with a high satisfaction rate. It can be a single session procedure however multiple sessions may be required, and this varies by patient. As with all tattooing procedures, a follow up visit is mandatory 6 weeks post procedure. Color retention can be affected by radiotherapy, existing scar tissue, medications, and other existing medical issues. It is important to discuss the possibility of additional sessions so that patient’s expectations can be managed accordingly.
As a trained PMU artist, you will design and perform this semi-permanent technique like the one of microblading eyebrows. Just like microblading eyebrows, nipple and areola tattoos are made by implanting color pigment beneath the outer layer of the skin.
The treatment is done with a small electronic machine using precise disposable and sterile needles. However, unlike microblading eyebrows that last one to three years, tattooed nipples and areolas tend to last much longer.
Areola micropigmentation is a treatment for medical reconstruction and enhancement, for example, following reconstructive surgery after breast cancer or breast surgery where the areola has been removed or distorted.
About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12.4%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. In 2018, an estimated 266,120 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 63,960 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer.
About 40,920 women in the U.S. are expected to die in 2018 from breast cancer, though death rates have been decreasing since 1989. As of January 2018, there are more than 3.1 million women with a history of breast cancer in the U.S. This includes women currently being treated and women who have finished treatment.
A woman’s risk of breast cancer nearly doubles if she has a first-degree relative (mother, sister, daughter) who has been diagnosed.
Nipple and areola reconstruction can help a breast cancer survivor feel more comfortable and can help improve the appearance of both women and men who have undergone breast surgery. Some clients find they are content without having a nipple at all, while others choose a form of reconstruction that does not require surgery.
THE MICROPIGMENTATION PROCEDURE
Prior to commencing, you will go over your client’s medical history in detail. You will discuss surgery and treatments you have had or have planned.
During the design phase we take photographs, go over any requests the client may have and proceed to draw new areola/nipple onto your client’s skin. The client should be fully involved in the process.
For bilateral breast reconstruction cases, we can use a custom blend of pigments to create a color that nicely complements your clients skin tone, or we recreate the color based on their pre- mastectomy photos
For unilateral breast reconstruction cases, we can use a custom blend of pigments to recreate a color that closely matches your clients existing nipple areola color
The treatment itself involves the implantation of small particles of pigment into the reticular layer of the skin and typically takes 2 to 3 hours to complete. It is virtually painless but, in some cases, if needed, a topical anesthetic is applied if the client experiences sensitivity.
